Norway issued eight stamps in the Millennium-series and two children's stamps.

Pictures of everyday life

Norway Post launched its Millennium programme on 11 June with four engraved stamps depicting significant eras of Norwegian history between the years 1000 and 1899.
On 9 September Norwegian Post brings another eight stamps in this programme.
This time devoted to our own century. In partnership with Norway's largest daily newspaper (VG) the Post asked for private owned photographs illustrating the developments that have taken place in everyday life during this century.
A total of 7851 photographs were received, which resulted in eight stamps. These stamps are also issued as a miniature sheet. It is not a common occurrence for Norway Post to issue miniature sheets.
The next set of millennium stamps will be issued on 31 December this year.

Children's games

On 9 September 1999 Norway Post issued the two last stamps for the being in the Children's Games series. The motives this year are modern children's games, skateboard and roller skating.
The stamp was designed by Marianne Nygård. "It's largely a matter of chance - there you are suddenly being asked to design stamps.
It's quite incredible", says Marianne. "I began with collages and ended up with pure drawing. I discovered that it wasn't easy to bring out all the details in a collage when the scale had to be reduced so much, I found it very instructive working this way, because you become aware of the possibilities and limitations as you go along."
