Christmas and Henry VIIA special Christmas postage stamp
The Christmas Stamp of Luxembourg this year, depicting a roe deer, is the work of well-known Belgian wildlife artist André Buzin. He is the artist of more than 300 postage stamp designs around the world. The roe deer is a small animal (55-80 cm). It has on its rump a patch of hair, which is white in winter and yellowish in summer. Its muzzle is black with the edge of the lips outlined in white. Sometimes there is a white spot on the front of the neck called a serviette. The roe deer has large ears, which allow it to hear sounds from a great distance. Its well-developed sense of smell compensates for mediocre vision, which is based on movement. Only the male, called a buck, has antlers. The roe deer is very quick and gracious and lives in mixed forests. It has no tail. Thanks to the power of his brother Archbishop Baudouin of Trier and of Pierre d'Aspelt, Archbishop of Mainz, Henry VII was elected Holy Roman Emperor in 1308. It was not until 1310 that he left with his family and several thousand men for Italy. After having received the crown of the Lombard kings in Milan, he had to crush an insurrection in Brescia where his brother Waléran (Walram) died. Obliged to circumvent the Tuscan towns, he finally arrived in Rome for his coronation on June 27th in 1312 by three cardinals at St. Jean of Latran (Pope Clement V having remained in Avignon). But malaria and conflict between the Guelphs (the Pope and the House of Anjou) and Ghibellines (followers of the Emperor) weakened his forces, and he died at Buonconvento, near Siena, on August 24, 1313, Interred in the dome of Pisa, he left on Italian soil his dreams of universal monarchy.Henry VII postage stamp in detailIssue: Luxembourg, 2 December 2008Design: Advantage Communications SA, Luxembourg and Landeshauptarchiv, Koblenz Printing: Multicolored high-resolution offset by Cartor Security Print Stamp size: 40 x 31,50 mm Sheet layout: 10 postage stamps per sheet More information Postage Stamps 2008 Royalty Luxembourg Christmas stamps Court of Justice Great Pipe Organs of Luxembourg NAMSA and Happy Greetings from Luxembourg Agricultural education in Ettelbruck Education and Animal Protection |
