Scouting on stamps

Two stamps to celebrate the Centenary of Scouting

Scouting on stamps A joint issue of postage stamps planned by the European country members of PostEurop, the Europa stamps annually follow a common theme. The subject chosen for 2007 is the centenary of scouting. The design of the postage stamps of Luxembourg come from a competition organized by the scout and guide community.

Baden-Powell

In 1907 Lord Robert Baden-Powell of Gilwell organized the first scout camp for young people at Brownsea Island. Since then, the scouting movement has spread across the planet and includes today more than 28 million Boy Scouts and Girl Guides in 155 countries. In the Grand Duchy, some 7,200 girls and boys form part of the scout/guide movement.

Scouting in Luxemburg

The scouting organization in Luxemburg is the organizer of festivities in the Grand Duchy for the Centenary of Scouting. The special events were, among others, a great promotional scouting exhibition and a weekend at Kockelscheuer. A Model Camp (MOCCA) was held on the banks of the Pétrusse in the heart of the Town of Luxembourg and the Museum of History of the Town of Luxembourg showed an exhibition on scouting.

Stamps in detail

The Luxemburg postage stamps have a face value of 50 and 70 cent. The stamps were issued on 22 May 2007 and printed by Cartor Security in La Loupe, France. Design by Jenny Spielmann, Jean Heuschling and Reprères Communication in Sandweiler.
