The scout movement was one hundred years old in 2007. The design for Finland's scouting stamps is by Susanna Rumpu and Ad Lakaniemi. One stamp shows three Girl Guides by a winter campfire in the fells of Lapland, and the other shows two Sea Scout boys and a girl sailing on the open sea in summer. The ideals of scouting - like developing yourself as a person, respect for others, and to love and conserve nature - are written on the edges of the stamp sheet. The margin also has a picture of a leather scout belt with the scouting motto: "Be prepared". The stamps are photo collages, assembled and arranged on a computer. The photographers are Ari Lakaniemi (scout belt, Sea Scouts), Pekka Luukkola (sea and winter landscape), and Matti Lehto (the three girls). The Lowe-Matin group printers printed the stamps in Canada. The scouting movement was founded in England in 1907, and in Finland it started in 1910. The Guides and Scouts of Finland is the largest youth organization in the country. It has 75,000 members. The booklet was designed and the drawings modified and adapted for the stamps by designer duo Susanna Rumpu and Ari Lakaniemi in cooperation with Oy Moomin Characters Ltd.
