Finland Post issued seven new stamps

On 22 September 2006 Finland Post issued seven new stamps. Among these stamps Finland issued a stamp with a mountain flower and a stamp in remembrance of the Association of Young Finns' Journalists.

Mountain avens on sheets

The mountain avens (Dryas octopetala), whose white petals can be seen on meadows among the fells of Lapland, is the subject of a 1st class non-value indicator stamp on an accordion-fold 50-stamp sheet. The sheet costs 34 euros. This is one euro less than the price of the individual stamps. The Philatelic Centre also sells the stamps individually.
The stamp was designed by Tmo Berry. The photo used on the stamp was taken by Ari Mäkelä.

Association of Young Journalists

Dog design was responsible for designing the stamp dedicated to newspaper journalism. The stamp is also a salute to the Association of Young Finns' Journalists, which is one hundred years old this year. This is the oldest Finnish association of journalists still in operation.
The Dog design team of Ilona Ilottu, Petri Salmela and Eeva Sivula placed texts from old newspaper articles on the stamp. These sections of text are in microprint - extremely small print that looks like a line of dots. Microprint is also used on banknotes as a security measure to make counterfeiting more difficult.

Freedom of speech

The texts form the typographical face of the stamp and a newspaper page. "A newspaper is like the face of the world" say the stamp designers. "Journalists' freedom of speech and keen eyes give the readership new perspectives and news from around the world."
The microprint articles are about a meeting of the Association of Young Finns' Journalists and the arrest of three Finnish Red Guards in Stockholm.
