Sports on stamps

It has been a tradition since the middle of the 1920s: the Stamp Office of Luxembourg has issued at the end of the year a series of charity postage stamps. The 2005 edition is the second set of stamps dedicated to popular sports.

Strong message to the public

Besides their philanthropic goal, these stamps send a strong message to the general public and to young people in particular: sport, it is health ! Advice that is good to remember in an era, alas, when television, game consoles and computers present every day a more tempting alternative to outdoor activities.

School of life

However, upon closer examination, today sport has, more than ever, many other worthwhile benefits. Apart from its physical nature, sport is also a "school of life" where one can learn the art of bodily expression (figure skating), respect for others (judo), team spirit (basketball) or even self-improvement (tennis).
So many good reasons to encourage participation in daily sports and to promote the several postitive benefits of doing so.
