Swiss Olympic stamp issueOlympic Games Turin 2006
The 20th Winter Olympics open in Turin on 10. February 2006 and Switzerland will be represented by its biggest team ever. As both national ice hockey teams have qualified, 43 athletes will be competing in that sport alone.Special Stamp and IOC Official StampIt's still too early for Werner Augsburger, Head Coach of the Swiss delegation at the Winter Olympics, to say how many athletes he'll be taking to Turin. The Technical Director of Swiss Olympic is currently thinking in terms of about 130. Since the end of last year, it's already been known that both the men's and women's national teams of the Swiss Ice Hockey Federation have qualified for Turin. So 43 Swiss ice hockey players of both sexes will be marching into the stadium at the opening ceremony on 10 February. They have not been named yet, as is the case with the stars in other disciplines. They will all be fighting for a place over the next few weeks and months. The role of Swiss OlympicSwiss Olympic, the umbrella organization for 81 Swiss sports federations, is responsible for all Olympic matters in Switzerland. This includes the administrative, organizational and logistical preparations (accommodation, travel, transport, team dress etc.), the representatives sent to the Games (incl. selections) as well as management of the Swiss teams on the spot.Stamps in detailIssue: Switzerland, 22 November 2005Print: offset by Austrian State Printing Office Stamp size: 33 x 28 mm Stamp perforation: 13,75 Stamp design: Karin Fanger Schiesser, Küssnacht More information Stamps Switzerland Postage stamps 2005 Stamp Day 2005 Clock stamps Friends of Nature |
