New UPU Official Stamp

Stamp for the Universal Postal Union

Swiss Post issued a new official stamp for the Universal Postal Union. The occasion was marked by a ceremony in conjunction with the opening of a philatelic exhibition at UPU headquarters in Berne.

Reaching everyone everywhere

The new stamp, which bears the organization's slogan, "Reaching everyone everywhere", highlights the UPU's commitment to the universal postal service. In the age of the Internet, e-mails and SMS messages on mobile phones, the postal service with its physical, electronic and financial networks is still the most accessible means of communication for most of the inhabitants of our planet.

Stamp designed by Nasir Tahir

The stamp was designed by Nasir Tahir (15), from Nigeria. Nasir Tahir, then a student at the International School in Berne, won first prize in the World Post Day poster competition organized by the UPU in April 2004. The entry of Nasir Tahir, which combines a variety of graphic elements with great creative skill, was chosen by an independent jury from over 200 others.
The winning stamp design, based on a collage, is three-dimensional and shows different methods of delivering post throughout the world, effectively capturing the dynamism and universal scope of the postal network's activities. The young artist, Nasir Tahir, who is now studying in London, attended the ceremony.
