The first Finnish postage stamps were issued in March 1856. At that time some 60 countries had issued national postage stamps. The first, so-called oval, stamps, 5 kopecks blue and 10 kopecks red, were printed one at a time using a manual stamp. The design of the postage stamps was identical to the value stamps printed on envelopes. Finland had started issuing these pieces of postal stationery, sold with postage paid, as early as in 1845, as the second country in the world.Nordic philatelic exhibitionFinland Post and the Philatelic Federation of Finland have decided to arrange the Nordic philatelic exhibition NORDIA 2006 as part of the Jubilee Year celebration.
