Mushrooms on stamps

The first issue of Aland in 2003 depicts on mushrooms. The amount of edible mushrooms in the Finish forests is estimated to reach around a million tons every year, but unfortunately only a fraction of these delicacies is gathered. Despite the fact that everyone can go out in the woods and pick mushrooms through a common right of access.

Chanterelle

The chanterelle (cantharellus cibarius) is seen as the king of the mushroom forest in Finland and the most favoured edible mushroom. It is completely yellow and reaches a height of 5 to 10 cm and has a funnel-shaped cap. The season for this mushroom is long: this delicacy may be picked from June until October. The chanterelle grows on the same place from year to year, which means that mushroom pickers faithfully return to their special places every season. Another advantage is that the chanterelle seldom is infected with fly larva.

King bolete

The king bolete (boletus edulis) is also called cep or porcini and is another very nice edible mushroom. It is a much sought-after mushroom in certain parts of Europe. It is particularly appreciated in Italy, where it is used dried in various pasta dishes. In Sweden, the mushroom is named after the Swedish king Charles XIV John, who enjoyed it immensely and began to cultivate it. The king bolete is commonly found in forests during August and September. The mushroom is white or light-brownish at the base with a cap in varying degrees of brown. It grows to be around 10-15 cm.

Parasol mushroom

The parasol mushroom (macrolepiota procera) is a popular and delicious mushroom, which may reach a height of 40 cm. The scaly grey-brownish cap may also sometimes grow to 30 cm in diameter. The base of the mushroom is white and hollow and its flesh may be strong and chewy. However, the cap may very well be mixed with other mushrooms or fried whole by itself. You can also dry this mushroom. The parasol mushroom is common in August and September.
