Niels Hendrik Abel

Great mathematician

Niels Hendrik Abel (1802-1829) is regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians of all time. His name commands respect in mathematical circles all over the world.
UNESCO has listed the 200th anniversary of his birth as one of the celebrations it will be associated with in 2002-2003.

"Nature" has included his name among the great thinkers of the last millennium. In spite of his youth, Niels Hendrik Abel managed to amaze the mathematical world with his new methods and advanced ideas.
