The Europe: water, a natural treasure stamp won the Most Beautiful Stamp of 2001 competition of Finland.The FIM 5.40 Europe stamp on rapids was chosen as the most beautiful stamp of 2001. Stamp depicts Haapavitja rapidsThe stamp depicts the Haapavitja rapids in the Ruunaa hiking area in Lieksa. The picture of the view was taken by photographer Markku Tano. The stamp was designed by graphic designer Kaisu Klemetti. The stamp received 12,118 votes. In total 64,588 votes were given.Postia Sinulle customer magazineThe runner-up was the FIM 2.50 Elf girl stamp by Pekka Vuori with 6,309 votes. Ranking third, with 6,236 votes, was the Blue Tit, a first class non-denominated stamp. This stamp was designed by Pekka Piippo.The competition was announced in the Postia Sinulle customer magazine of Finland Post and at the Stamp fair in November.
