University of Antwerp

Higher education

Under the university of Antwerp name a range of higher education establishments having joined forces: they include the Rijksuniversitair Centrum Antwerpen (RUCA) and the Universitaire Faculteiten Sint-Ignatius Antwerpen (UFSIA).

Commercial education

For both the UFSIA and the RUCA 1852 was an important year. The old Jesuit college grew into the Saint Ignatius Commercial School, while the Royal Decree of 29 October 1852 set up a higher institute for commercial education. Both were granted university status in 1965.

Stamp designed by Guillaume Broux

The stamp bears witness to the close co-operation between these institutions beneath the historic arms of the city of Antwerp. House engraver Guillaume Broux has interpreted a 150 year old engraving of the river city in his own authoritative style.
