Pictorial franking label

The last pictorial franking label marked with the national currency Aland issued on 3 September 2001 the last pictorial franking label marked with the national currency. On the new label a charolais cow is shown.

Charolais

The charolais is the most common beef cow in Aland and is also seen as the best breed of beef cattle in the world. The charolais is white or grey-white. They originate from France and used to be a combined work, milk and meat breed. It was later interbred with another breed, the shorthorn, to increase the quality and quantity of the meat. The bull can weigh as much as 1500 kg, while the female will beat least 750 kg.
