Link Tips New Stamps Popular Service | Zénobe GrammeBelgian inventor and industrialistThe Belgian inventor and industrialist Zénobe Gramme (1826-1901) was born in the small town of Jehay. In 1856 he moved to Paris, France where he became electrical engineer in a factory for electrical apparatus.
Improved magneto-electrical machinesIn 1867, he took out his first patent for a device dedicated to improve magneto-electrical machines, but he showed his most famous invention to the Paris Academy of Sciences in 1871, after a stay in London.Hippolyte FontaineIn order to have his device manufactured, he founded in partnership with the French engineer Hippolyte Fontaine, the Gramme Magneto-electric Machine Society. This factory specialised in the development and construction of dynamos or generators.Zénobe Gramme lived and died in ParisZénobe Gramme mainly lived in Paris until he died in January 1901.
