New Swiss postage stamps

On 21 November 2000 Switzerland issued a stamp to commemorate Stamp Day, two new definitives, a Christmas stamp and a series of "Pro Juventute" stamps.

Stamp Day

For the first time in the year 2000, the general public had an opportunity to vote on a stamp issue. Ten artists who had all been involved in past Swiss Post issues were invited to submit their interpretation of "Zurich" to commemorate Stamp Day 2000.

Definitives

Footwear (200c)

Sturdy footwear is vital for hiking. Safety has top priority in the mountains. Just one slip could easily put a stop to memorable high-altitude hikes with breathtaking views for quite some time. The stamp shows the Grimsel region.

Mountain bike (300c)

Mountain bikes can conquer all kinds of terrain. Riders who take it easy get chatting to others, watch the stream meander down the valley and under the bridge or enjoy the wonderful scenery.

Christmas

For some 200 years, a wide variety of materials such as glass, wax, metal, textiles, wood, celluloid and cardboard have been used to create Christmas decorations.
