Norway 17 November 2000

On 17 November 2000 Norway issued two new series: Comics and Altar Pieces.

Comics

The two stamps show us Norwegian comics. One stamp depicts "Nils og Blamann". This is a story about a young lad and his Billygoat. The comic was published for the first time in 1927. The other stamp depicts the soldier "91 Stomperud" comic. It is about life in the Norwegian army. This comic appeared for the first time in 1937.
The two stamps are issued in a self-adhesive booklet consisting of eight stamps.
Values: 4.20 kr.

Altar Pieces

The 3.60 kr stamp shows the colourful woven altar piece from Hamaroy Church. The all-seeing, never-sleeping eye of the Father shines out of the altar piece. On the iris, we can see the crux of the Cross. The triangle under the stem of the cross symbolises the Holy Trinity. The top point of the triangle is in the iris of God's eye.
The 4 kr stamp shows the altar piece from the new church of Ski. The square visualises the Four Corners of the world. In the centre of the world stand Jesus Christ. The figure can be seen as both the crucified and resurrected Jesus. The many different shades of blue symbolise the water of life and Jesus is the living source.

Both stamps are issued in sheets of 50 stamps each.
