Art on stamps

Six unique works of Finnish industrial art are presented in a stamp booklet that is issued on 5 September 2000. Also two new self-adhesives were issued.

Industrial art

The works presented are: The "Flame" rug by Akseli Gallen-Kallela, Pearl Bird by Birger Kaipiainen, a pot by Kyllikki Salmenhaara, the "Leaf" platter by Tapio Wirkkala, the furnishing fabric "Lichen" by Dora Jung and a glass vase by Valter Jung.
The face value of each of the six stamps is 3.50m. The first day cover for the stamps features a bracelet designed in 1958 by Bertel Gardberg.

Stamp design

The stamp booklet, the FDC and the first day cancellation were designed by D.O.G. Design. The goal of the designers, Ilona Ilottu, Petri Salmela and Eeva Sivula, was to create a modern graphic product combining the elements from various times into a harmonic entirety. Although the oldest design was made more than a century ago, and the designs were created over a number of decades, it is difficult to see at a glance which are the older and which are the more recent ones.
The timelessness of Finnish design is thus plainly to be seen.

Grouse and Whitefish

The grouse, the provincial bird of Southern Lapland, and the whitefish are featured on the new self-adhesive first and second class definitives without a printed face value.
These stamps were designed for use by small businesses and associations. They are so-called roll stamps, sold in rolls of 100 stamps, packaged in a handy dispenser box.

Postage stamp design

The grouse stamp was designed by Pekka Piippo and the whitefish by Minna Luoma. These designers also designed the previous stamps featuring provincial birds and fish.
The series of stamps presenting provincial birds and fish was commenced in 1998.
