Royal Mail celebrates centenary of Queen Mother

Royal Mail issued stamps featuring four generations of Royals

History has been made on 4 August 2000, when Royal Mail issued stamps featuring four generations of the Royal Family to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother.

Queen Mother lived in extraordinary century

Mark Thompson, Managing Director of Royal Mail Stamps and Collectibles said: "She has lived through the most extraordinary century and her life reflects this. She witnessed the huge sacrifice of two World Wars and with her husband, had to take on the Monarchy's duties after the unexpected abdication of King Edward VIII in 1936.
In their new roles as King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, the couple inspired the nation with their fresh, approachable style and this affection for the Queen Mother is as strong as ever today."
