Hemispheres combine to commemorate opening of Welsh Botanic GardenSpecial NVI stamp bookletRoyal Mail is issuing a special NVI stamp booklet and coin cover to commemorate the opening on 4 April of the National Botanic Garden of Wales (Gardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru).
Stamp available along with coverThis book, which is available along with the cover from 4 April, will contain four first class Millennium definitive stamps and a commemorative label. This will feature two species from the northern and southern hemispheres which can both be found in the Gardens at Middleton Hall, Llanarthne, Carmarthenshire, Allium, which is a part of the onion and leek families, and has been used by herbal physicians as far back as the 14th century.The Allium is a part of the leek and onion families varieties of which are occasionally referred to as the flowering leek and globe onion. The leek is also a member of these families. Throughout history they have been used as medicinal plants. Southern Hemisphere EchinopsThe Southern Hemisphere Echinops is a member of the Daisy family and is housed in the tropical Norman Foster-designed glasshouse.The echinops is a member of the daisy family and comes from the arid steppes of Central and Eastern Asia. Rose Design Associates of London designed the label by using photography by Fleur Olby. Printed by Walsall Security Printers, the book costs 104 pence.
