Red Cross

For the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, the millennium year started on 8th May 1999 and will end on 8th May 2000.
Within the framework of this year, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement is developing a great number of actions aiming at promoting its activities and at sensitising public opinion. The work that is carried out by the movement through its network of collaborators covering 175 countries as well as some very remote areas in the world and bringing assistance and hope to the afflicted.

The World Wide Fund for Nature

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) was founded in 1961. Its logo shows the giant panda, a bear found only in western China. With about five million supporters around the world, this organisation that is devoted to the care conservation of the natural living world is the biggest of its kind.
The WWF's aim is to maintain the ecological balance between flora and fauna, air, water and earth on the one hand and human needs on the other.
They advise people and try to persuade them to show respect for all living creatures. We need nature and nature needs us. We all have to do our bit to build a future in which man lives side by side with all other living things.
The Belgian Post is now issuing a four-stamp set featuring endangered amphibians and reptiles. The stamps to be issued will show the viper, sand lizard, the tree frog and the spotted salamander. The comic artist René Hausman designed these values.
