The new stamps of South Georgia depict Chinstrap penguins. There are four stamp designs released as stamps with values of 2 x 55p, 1 x 65p and 1 x 95p. Each postage stamp bears the WWF Panda symbol. These stamps are available in a number of different formats.Chinstrap penguins, Pygoscelis antarcticus, are named after the distinctive thin black band of feathers which runs from one side of the head to the other, just under their bill and which resembles the chin strap of a helmet. South Georgia issued four new stamps about fishing in the waters around South Georgia. These postage stamps depict ships at sea and the fish they hunt for. The waters around South Georgia teem with marine life, thanks to the rich mixing of cold and warm currents at the polar front. Krill, the basic building block of the Southern Ocean's biology, gathers in large swarms and is fed upon by larger fish, penguins and marine mammals. The earliest example of international coordination in polar science was the Transit of Venus, 9 December 1874. Britain, France, Germany and the United States, which established eight coordinated observatories, observed it in Antarctic regions.
