The heraldic lion of Finland adorned the jubilee issue for the 150th anniversary of the Finnish postage stamp in 2006. In honor of the 150th anniversary of the Finnish stamp, a miniature sheet was issued on 27 October 2006 in scintillating red, blue and gold, on the theme of the lion coat of arms of Finland on Finnish stamps.

Vulcan Bomber Had it not been for the Falklands war in 1982 the Vulcan would have flown for its entire service life without ever dropping a bomb in anger. Although the primary weapon for the Vulcan was nuclear, it could carry up to 21 x 1000 lb bombs and 30 years after its maiden flight the Vulcan was able to successfully complete what was to become the longest successful combat flight in history (until the 15t Gulf War).

In 1907, Grand Duke Guillaume IV of Luxembourg elevated the areas of Differdange, Dudelange, Rumelange and Ettelbruck to the status of towns. This title was attributed to them by the 4 August 1907. Four new postage stamps were issued.

On 27 March 2007 a new series of four stamps on maritime heritage of the Falkland Islands was issued. These stamps were designed by John Batchelor and printed in lithography by BDT International Security Printing. The gutters of each stamp sheet carry the official Falkland 25 logo.

What is Philately ?

Philately is the study of Revenue or postage stamps. This includes the design, production and uses of stamps after they are issued by postal authorities. Although many equate it with stamp collecting, it is a distinct activity.

Rowland Hill

The English postal reformer Rowland Hill was born in 1795 in Kidderminster (Worcestershire). His father managed a school in Birmingham. In 1807 Rowland Hill became a student-teacher at his father's school. As a sideline Rowland Hill was an inventor, although most of his ideas were never used.
