The 0.90 euro stamp by Asser Jaaro features a part of a 1905 painting by Victor Westerholm (1860-1919). The painting depicts a view from Mustavuori in Kuusankoski to the Kymijoki river.

Flowers on postage stamps
Sensitive drawings by Pirkko Juvonen are seen on many new stamps, issued on 1 January 2002. Her paint brush has made the lily-of-the-valley and the forget-me-not flower in 0.10 and 0.05 euro.

The modern heraldic lion by Mika Launis won the stamp design competition in 2000. The winner is now the pictorial subject of the 1 euro blue stamp and the 5 euro red stamp.

Trees on postage stamps
Pirkko Juvonen designed the stamps on the spruce, pine and birch. The face value of the stamps is 2.50, 3.50 and 0.60 euro respectively.
The stamps are valid as domestic postage for 2nd class maxi letters up to 250 grams, 1st class letters up to 1000 grams and 1st class letters up to 50 grams.

Cycling on stamps
In 2002, for the first time two cycling championships are held at the same venue: Circuit Zolder. In February, the world cycle-cross championships are held, while the road championships are to be held in October 2002.

At the request of the funeral sector, a special mourning stamp was designed by the Belgian post. This stamp was issued on 10 December 2001.

St Canute's Day
In Aland St Canute's Day is definitely looked upon as the day when the Christmas tree is thrown out and the decorations tucked away. This special tradition is still very much alive.

The new definitive stamps of Aland saw the light of day immediately in January. The stamps depict two rare animals, which both are protected by law: Smooth snake and great crested newt.

Europe's longest coastline has been brought into focus by Royal Mail across ten first class special stamps. Coastlines, which goes on sale on March 19, uses spectacular aerial photography to create ten snapshots capturing some of Britain's 7,000 miles of richly diverse coastline.

They all had a place among Norway's great actors who mastered both classical and modern repertoire. Their portraits are now subjects of the third stamp issue devoted to Norwegian theatre history, drawn this time by Arne Roar Lund.

Old Rauma is the subject of a miniature sheet of four stamps of Finland. The face value of each stamp is 60 cents. The issue of the sheet, designed by professor Erik Bruun, is 300,000.

This year is the jubilee year of Elias Lönnrot. The 200th anniversary of his birth was celebrated in April. Finland Post issued a miniature sheet of four stamps on Elias Lönnrot (1882-1884).

Flying witch
The new stamp issued for Easter greetings depicts a witch riding on a broomstick. The 60 cents stamp is issued on 6 March 2002 and was designed by Ms Katriina Viljamaa-Rissanen.

Swiss post is commemorating the birthday of the Swiss Railway (SBB) with a new set of four special stamps. Each of the stamps illustrates one of the SBB's latest vehicles against a different-coloured background with a stylised section of track. The motifs represent Swiss Railway's key business areas: long-distance traffic, regional traffic and freight traffic.
